Hi Rahul,

I was just checking the site to see if I had any more replies for the 10th April meet and this popped up in "myS2K" (I contributed to this before).

As for dealers, I think we both know not to trsut them and to be damned careful in terms of oil types and levels. I personally think a lot of the problem is because RWD cars are rare these days (and FWD cars normally use engine oil in their diffs!). Best to use a repairer that deals with a lot of S2ks IMO. I'm trying Southern Counties out this Summer for a service (bad experience with them last time but the offer of free labour is tempting me back - I'll let you know how it goes).

Concerning the MTF, I think this is only available in bulk to dealers. Best to get them to change it and then check the level is correct (and "touch and smell the oil" when doing this to make sure its right), I suggest. I can't see any other way of getting hold of the right oil. A lot of hassle maybe, but probably worth it. Also, worth marking the drain and level plugs wiht some paint juts to make sure they don't mess it about on the next service.

As for diff oil, I'm considering buying some Castrol synthetic axle fluid (SAF) This is what Castrol said to me:

"Mike, there are currently no products that actually exceed GL-5, or at least that can be measured or tested as such. GL-5 is the highest load rating in the API specs. There has been a GL-6 spec for oils with very high levels of EP additive but this rating is now obselete, and the equipment for testing it no longer available.

SAF-XJ should be available in Halfords / Partco / Unipart etc and should retail at about

Hi Mike

Good to hear from you. The meet date is fast approaching and I am keeping my fingers crossed for better weather.

The reason I want to change the GB oil is for my peace of mind TBH. I just don't trust any Honda dealer any more to get it right either. After all the wrong info I have been given I don't trust them to get anything right. Also Honda have quoted me

Thanks for the link mate. But this product seems to have friction modifiers in it which we don't need. I am not sure whether it is bad for the Torsen diff but it is meant only for clutch type LSD AFAIK.

I have however just come across Milllers CRX 75W90 which is fully synth for the diff and for

Another update. Managed to get both GB oil and Mobil 1 diff oil from http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk. Perfect, should be here before Friday. Only question now is whether to get MTL or MT90 for the GB. Help please.

No problem. Mobil 1's 75W-90 has friction modifiers as well though

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 contains special friction modifiers designed for limited slip-type differentials.

Must admit I am not totally on top of gear oils though. I too looked for Mobil 1's diff oil but could only see it online but not through a site I would feel comfortable ordering.

Redline is available at http://www.redlineoil.co.uk/first.htm and http://www.mtmotorsport.co.uk/redline/. I think the UK S2K club has a discount with the first lot but I haven't order from either?

That is a good point. I think I need to go to Under the Hood forum to see what they say.

I would definitely not take a chance on diff oil - the consequences of using the wrong stuff will spell disaster for the diff.

I had major problems because my dealer put the wrong stuff in - diff had to be repaired and now has Castrol SAF X Diff oil in it and it's spot on. Don't know what the oil costs, but I couldn't recommend anything else (though I'm sure the Redline is up to the job)
