AB I notice the Red Line oil you use is GL-4 not GL-5, does this make a difference?? If you use, I take it there is no problems!!

Rahul - strange that you were asking about the diff oil as I have stated what I used on page 1 of this thread.

BTW, whenever you get anything from parts at Chiswick, it's best to take part numbers with you.
The reason was due to several factors. One I really wanted Mobil1 for the diff and didn't know where to get it and also to find out if the Castrol I had used was good enough. Secondly I really was unsure of using Redline stuff, as I had never heard of them. Call me mad but it was really that simple.

Rahula - I bought some Honda MTF for my friend from Chiswick Honda - all you need to do is take in a bottle and they'll fill it up for you - Cost was around

Mojo the redline diff oil 75W90 is indeed gl5 and the gearbox can oly take gl4 and not 5 because of the sulphur. Yes I do know I am not AB!

Just rang Ewell Honda and they have never heard of MTF or MTF Type 2! They are insisting they only ever use engine oil in the gb of all cars. Where do I find these strange places? They are now ringing Honda Technical as I have told them that engine oil can and should only be used for temporary measure.

Cheers Rahul

I can't stand the sales guys or the service team - your best bet is to walk in to the parts counter with a 5litre container and say that you are wanting some Honda MTF for the gearbox - they will sell it to you. IIRC my friend paid

I've just looked at my 27k serive invoice and there is not a item listed for the diff oil?
Its been ticked off on the service schedule but not invoiced for ??

Just phone the dealer about another problem (see other thread) and ask what they used they told me it was ' Castrol SYNTEC' that all the info they had, they added the cost was in the price of the service.

Seems odd as others have had it listed on the invoice...

Right did a little more digging where to buy and what to buy for the rear diff and Castrol do indeed do two different synt oil. First is SAF-XJ but this is 75W140 but another one is SAF-XO and this is the right oil for us and is 75W90. Called my local BMW dealer and he does have the XJ in stock but no XO. Here is the link Castrol XO

Pain in the backside if you ask me trying to source these products unless I am doing something wrong. I just don't want to buy in bulk or pay

If they used this product you should be fine too I think.
