Aren't those primarily for the gearbox transmission?

I would definitely not take a chance on diff oil - the consequences of using the wrong stuff will spell disaster for the diff.

I had major problems because my dealer put the wrong stuff in - diff had to be repaired and now has Castrol SAF X Diff oil in it and it's spot on. Don't know what the oil costs, but I couldn't recommend anything else (though I'm sure the Redline is up to the job)
I take it that's "SAF-XJ". How long (time and mileage) have you been running it?

If you have run this for a while with no problems I think that may persuade me to go for this option. I'm just slightly concerned that the viscosity is a little too high compared to the Honda recommended specification but then we live in a maritime climate and the Honda spec probably takes colder climates into account.

Rahul, I see you've sourced your own oil now. 5 litres is probably more than I need (I was only planning to change the diff oil every second service and this amount would probably last me 6 years!), but I suppose a purpose designed oil is going to cost. Anyway, see you at the meet

After reading the thread think it's time to replace the gearbox and diff oil.

How many litres of each oil should I buy?

Think i'm going to go for the Redline 75w90 oil for the gearbox and Redline MTL 70W80 oil for the diff.

Final question, how long should it take a Honda main dealer to replace the gearbox and diff oil, just so I know they won't be ripping me off. Well anymore than usual!!

Hi guys
just came across this thread - it touched a nerve since I have just had a replacement Diff fitted last week - looked at the Inv / rang the dealer to make sure they had used the correct Oil - glad to note that they did !

It is always a concern regards the capability of the Honda Dealers / Mechanics & their ability to look after an S2 - Avondale Honda at Solihull (many of the staff / mechanics came from Tachbrook Honda after it closed) continue to have my confidence.

Peter

Rahul - strange that you were asking about the diff oil as I have stated what I used on page 1 of this thread.

BTW, whenever you get anything from parts at Chiswick, it's best to take part numbers with you.

Hi Mike.

I am really sorry but I won't be getting the SAF oil. Two reasons, one I have been told the Castrol EPX oil I used is fine and will not cause any problems and secondly the SAF oil does seem to be higher vis than the one Honda recomend. Thanks for the offer though.

The GB oil will be done by Honda. I have read so many posts and concluded that the MTF stuff they use will be fine and I would like to keep my warranty intact.

Cheers
