But the question is "Did you buy her a new seat or give her your old one?"

911 is lip smackingly good to look at even if its engine is sick.

Keep the S.

I'll never own a 911 (I've promised myself)

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like the concensus is go for the 911!

It seems that there have been 2 major issues with early 996's -

1. The oil seal issue, which Strasse say it costs

Agree with douglasr. Go into it with your eyes open. Biggest problems with the 996 include RMS failure - which can mean big bills for a new engine. Porsche's attitude to this issue is appalling by the way. The earlier ones are also not the best built and you should look for rust and dodgy trim. Check out the forums on the PCGB website to see how many unhappy 996 and Boxster owners are around.

The dealers mentioned are fine but they are all in the business of trying to sell cars. I bought mine from 911 Virgin and I don't think they allow test drives for example. You can do as I do and end up buying a car which has needed lots of things doing to it (tho mine is a 993 which is 4-5 years older than you are looking at).

For example I've had my car since Jan 04 and I've spent about

Is there any spec on a 911 you'd avoid or want?
Sorry crossed with your last post.

I'd avoid tiptronic. I'd also just try and get the best possible spec. Don't be seduced by the C4S unless you must have the wide body look, the narrow body standard coupe is quicker. It's personal taste but I'd avoid the gt3 body kitted ones too.

Try both the C2 and the C4. I'd go C4 as I think it is better for the winter and comes with clear lenses etc as standard (whoopee) but those who have driven them tell me there is nothing in it for the average driver and the C2 is fine (and cheaper).

BTW I was surprised that when I got my Honda the insurance quote was more than my 911 so that shouldn't be too bad.
