Driving in France
Help me!
I have searched but get loads of US threads which are no use to me.
What do I require to take the S over to lille in June (I've got the Chunnel ticket and a hotel thus far)
I believe you have to have a spare bulb kit (?), also insurance green card I think, Breakdown recovery? what about headlight realignment (no way I'm sticking anything on the lights BTW)
anything else?
TIA

The lights are projectors and don't need reflectors.
I think you need (I've had for my france/holland/belgium/germany trips).
Bulb kit
Reflective jacket (one per person)
Fire extinguisher
Triangle
1st aid kit
Inform your insurance
and hide your snooper

Have driven to le mans every year for the last 12 years, switzerland numerous times, luxembourg (through Reims) many times and haven't bothered to take anything that wasn't in the car to start with. The one golden rule as Bibbs points out is hide your snooper. They're starting to get a bit more savvy with GPS devices but they will still give you grief if it looks anything like a radar detector!
Watch your speeding over 170 km/h:
http://english.controleradar.org/speeding-fines.php
That page is pretty accurate but the 1500 euro 'fine' for over 170 km/h on a dry motorway is not a fine but a deposit for your court appearance. If the court decides on a higher fine it will send a demand for the remainder to your uk address.
The system for carrying penalty points across EU borders is not due until 2009, and you can bet with confidence that it's bound to be delayed.

What about your headlights?
As a fairly new S owner and going to Le Mans for the first time, thanks for the useful advice.
Cheers
