Default ECU Memory?

Hi all,

Ive asked a few questions now about the S as im looking to buy one shortly. Ive test driven one today and looked into the history of the car, it has one lady owner and it the first two years only did 4500miles pa, millage is now 19000 and its 3 years old.

Now when I drove the car, I didnt feel much of a pull which is a little disappointing but hasnt put me off. No insult to the lady owners on this forum but i cant imagine this car has been redlined much, could this impact on the current performance of the car? Do any of you notice a difference when the ECU has been reset or is it negligable? Im assuming the ECU manages the engine based on the way the car is driven?

You were probably in the wrong gear.

ECU on the S doesn't adapt to driving style, so a reset won't be tooo much good. If you do it, it does sharpent hings up a bit while it gets used to new settings.

Have you driven one before?

Ok, that about answers my question.

Ive test driven two, and I redlined it a few times, maybe didnt get a good feel for it to be honest, it might also be because my current car is a turbo diesel so has more torque and my previous car was a Cooper S, again more torque than the S2000.

That has nothing to do with it.

Ditto Dembo - you were in the wrong gear

That will be the diesel torque. In the S2000, you are often going as fast or faster than your diesel, you just dont "feel" the shove.

Thanks MB, as much as i dont doubt i was in the wrong gear, it was the lack of torque i was talking about.

Its a very different car in several respects anyway so it wont put me off buying one.

I came from a 340 bhp Impreza STi many years back, and you do have to mentally adjust to losing the shove. It's a nippy bit of kit once it's on the boil though!

Could also be a lack of oil on the one you tested, VTEC doesnt engage if oil is too low apparently.
