Default Engine/gearbox noise

Ok i was coming back from work tonight, just had the muz intake fitted and when the engine was warmed up i gave it some welly from 1st through to 3rd.
Given that its noisey with the intake and a HKS (so harder to hear) im sure the engine or gear box was noisey, such as clattery (when getting up past 6k).
Oil is checked every week so it should be full, and i tried revving the car in top to make sure the clutch wasnt slipping.

So has any body any ideas what it could be?

You've not really given enough info to make a useful guess. I'd suggest listening to the engine with the bonnet up at idle when it's fully warmed up. See if you can hear anything then, and if you can try to narrow down where the noise is coming from. I'm not going to say what kind of noises to listen for where, as it'd just create a load of car hypochondriacs thinking their engine's about to blow up.

if its a rattle at high revs, then it could be the gearshifter rattling. You can ask your dealer to open it up, re-pack with grease and put it back together.

Put the roof up and see if it 'rings' at high revs 7-8kish. If it rings, push it hard against one side with your hand and it should stop.

there are probably some posts about it somewhere try +ringing +shifter if you want to find out more..

OK, cheers guys.
Tried opening the bonnet but noting out the ordinary there turtle, the noise was only when the car was revved above 6k on the road.
Will try the gear box thing when i head off l8r.

Could be heathsheild rattle - thats been known.

My HKS has a rattle at 5k, due to baffles - could be that. Do this test: Park the car, out of gear, rev to 6k. Is the sound the same?

If it is, chances are it is NOT a gearbox issue as the powertrain is dis-engaged.
