Default Engine light on dash has lit up

Help pls. Just been out for a drive, decided to wash the car and once finished and started up, the eingine light on the dash came on. Switched the car off for 20 mins and then checked the oil in case but was 2 notches from the top. Car was driving fine, only thing I can think of is the weather was about 30 degrees and the top of the airbox was off, could that affect in any way?

Should I reset the ECU and then see if the light comes on again? If so, any ideas how to go about it?

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew

It could be one of a thousand things. You need to pull the code from the ECU before you reset. All the answers to your questions are in the FAQ in "Under the hood" section

Hey Mark,

Thanks for that. I'll go have a quick read now then.

Just gone down to the car to get the manual out, started it up and the light has disappeared!! Either way, going straight down the dealers tomorrow and see what they can pull up when they hook up to their 'system'. The light wasn'nt flashing, it was just constant, although in the 'under the hood' forum it said this could mean the service schedule is due?

Wish me luck folks lol.

Nope UK cars don't have the service indicator on them.
Sounds to me like water got where it shouldn't anf then dried out.
Get the code pulled for peace of mind.

IIRC they can still pull the code if the light has gone off so long as you don't reset the ECU!

Correct. If your not near a dealer buy an ECU reader of ebay and do it yourself.
