Default Engine Sound?

hi all
As some of you know i have had my car for almost a month now, I have a question prob a silly one but here goes,

When i first bought the car when i hit around 5800-6000 Rmp i used to be able to hear the Vtec sort of switch over into higher revs if you get wat i mean, but it seems to have gone,

i just wondered if its because i am now used to the car of if there is a known fault for this to happen, she still Revs up to 9k fine but just doesnt seem as high pitched as i thought she was

any ideas?

I would expect you to notice it even with hood up or a lid on although it's more obvious with the top down or windows open. even without listening to the change in note you should still feel a change in power.

certain conditions have to be met in order for the vtec switch over to happen. There have been threads on this before and one common cause can be low oil level.

Have you had anythng done or fitted any upgrades? IIRC vtec is controlled by a solenoid thats located near the front right of the rocker cover, check that cables are not loose etc.

They're the basic checks to do.

I felt the same - I concluded I'd just got used to hell breaking loose at 6000 revs
