Default First service

Hi,
I've now driven over 3500 miles in my new Y reg s2000.
When I collected my car, the dealer mentioned a free service at 3000 miles, but when I phoned recently he told me that it wasn't free and it wasn't an essential service and it could wait until 9000 miles.

I thought that it would be best to replace the oil/airfilters after running it in ? What did others do ?

Is it worth me having an oil filter change after running in the engine or should I just wait for the first 9000 miles service ?

I provided my own oil and asked them to do a oil / filter change @ 4050 (if you do do this use Dino Oil not synthetic, Mobil 10-30 is a good choice(and is the stuff Honda US themselves use just re-packaged), nothing heavier than 10 in the UK I would say). First actual service carried out at 8,000 miles (in book it says 7,500) but as I had done a oil change already I wasn't concerned) either way, 9,000 miles is far too long, your dealer is talking out of his arse. (I went to Mobil1 0W-40 synthetic at 8,000 miles).

Long / many discussions about keeping the break-in oil until 7,500 miles have raged in the US forum, but most agree 4,000 miles is not too soon, with majority staying with Dino oil up until second change.

IF YOU HAVEN'T CHECKED THE OIL TO DATE GO OUT AND DO IT NOW, EVEN IF ITS RAINING!!!

AT 3,000 MILES MINE HAD USED OVER 1.5 LITRES (Assuming it was at the top mark when it came, I don't know that).

A lot of people were losing the VTEC mojo at just over 3,000 miles because their oil was so low.

Thanks for the advice UK Paul...

I shall check my oil this morning before I take it out.
And it indeed looks like it will rain.

Im nearly at 4000 miles now, so maybe I should check it in for an oil change in the next couple of weeks anyhow.

Yeah, when I spoke to the dealer, the guy at the service desk was busy so I had to speak to a sales guy instead. He clearly didn't know what he was talking about. Next time I'll go up there in person so they can't fob me off with BS.
