Default Fixed Penalty, A Conditional Offer

Hi folks,
Received my first Notice of Impending Prosecution a few weeks back. I wouldn't mind, but I wasn't even driving the S. Anyway, the Gatso snapped me doing 72 in a 50 zone near Edinburgh on M8/M9, damn camera was hidden behind a bridge at the bottom of the hill. So, fair cop, filled in the details and sent it back.

Now, I've received a letter from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service giving me a conditional offer of a fixed penalty, stating that I will not be prosecuted if I pay up

I think they'll be asking for your licence in due course. But if you've got away with

It used to be the case that if the camera was at roadworks i.e. a contraflow they could only fine you.

That would indeed be a result. Any of the legal eagles care to comment?

I think that camera is the one at Newbridge - under the roundabout?

It's not exactly in a danger hot spot, and TBH I can't see why they put a camera there in the first place.

Perhaps they regard it as not too dangerous an area to be doing 70 in, and that's why they haven't penalised you too much.

Yep Newbridge, that's the one. Sneaky place, I thought. It was late at night, no traffic at all, so maybe their being lenient??

Anyone else comment on the points situation? I would have expected them to have requested my licence in the same letter.
