Default Getting traction in the snow...

Morning,

Last night I was training hard at the gym for a couple of hours and when I came out Tunbridge Wells was caked in a good amount of snow. Would the S2000 move in it, fraid not, it was embaressing to say the least. I finally found a way out of the sports complex by driving backwards... Most front wheel drive cars were having problems with the compacted snow providing an ice skating ring and my car was going nowhere, finally tried reversing out for 600m rather odd driving backwards trying to get to a main road...

The problems were not over as the local council obviously in their wisdom did'nt bother gritting the main roads and it took over 1hour of and some to actually drive 6 miles home with the hazards, got overtaken by a couple of cars who I came across 15 mins laters tangled on the side of the road, both drivers looked to be shouting at one another, I assume one went off and the other followed, these drivers deserve everything they got, tailgating and driving far too fast, one saab, and one mondeo that look like they will require some fixing..

I've found in these same conditions the S2000 performs well if you let it get on with itself!

In the morning up a small incline compacted snow, I let the tickover push me up, NOT CHANGING INTO SECOND as this is when you lose traction (then its hard to get it back!)

On ice I let the engine do most of the braking & take it really slow, only changing up a gear when above 2500 revs & on a decent stretch letting nuggets overtake me to try & reach 30

Most of this is aided by the fact my rear S02's have about only 100 miles on them

I'm running with a full tank of juice or a bag of sand in the boot! It seems to settle the back end down quite nicely

The S2K is certainly not a car for the the winter, but then not many rear drivers with big power and fat tyres are!

Get the car setup for the winter, and it's fine. Try a search for xviper's posts. Every month someone says the S2000 can't be used in Canada's winter... which is a load of rubbish.

Now driving on snow on S02JZ's.... that's not a good idea full stop IMHO.
