Hi all,
I am trying to figure out what kind of stereo modification to get. There are many different opinions flying around the forum: just new speakers, speakers and an amp, or the works with speakers, amp, and head unit. I was wondering if people REALLY feel that it's worth getting a new head unit, despite its extra cost with Pinky's mod. Is the sound improvement that much more phenomenal? Or is it only barely noticeable with the stook's engine noise? Any feedback/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just added eclipse 8263 6 1/2" speakers without a new head unit or amp and the sound is 100% better. It makes the system sound great up until the last 1/8 of the volume level. I don't think anything else is necessary unless your a complete audiophile.

I think it all depends on what level of sound quality you are striving for. IMHO, an amp and speaker replacement is mandatory unless you only listen to AM talk radio. However, if you're accustomed to true high quality sound then a new head unit also is necessary. I've done the amp/speaker swap in my car and the difference is noticeable but still doesn't approach the sound quality I've had in past cars. As soon as I decide on which head unit I want I'll be replacing that too. A side note to the other fellow who just replaced his speakers: The stock head unit doesn't have the power to adequately drive a decent pair of speakers. You should seriously consider adding an amp or replacing the head unit with a higher powered head unit.
