Default HEPL!

Help guys...

Bought myself a nice new Alpine head unit (9812RR) and Alpine interface as required but I can't connect the antenna lead - do I need another adaptor I'm not aware of?...

...and even without the antenna lead connected I don 't seem to have any power going to the Alpine head unit (the standard head unit powers up fine...

what's going on guys

Thought this was supposed to be easy?

Andy

There is a short adaptor cable for the antenna usually - think these are meant to be i nthe box with the HU though. If not pretty much any car audio place will stock them.

Dunno about the power issue, mine was pretty straighforward, I think the interface thing plugged in between the car loom and the HU.

You may need to run a power cable from the battery. ISTR the HU came with a long red cable with an inline fuse holder...

You should power the Alpine directly from the battery rather than using the stock loom.

Right, sorted the aerial probledm (found an old adaptor kicking around in the garage).

Now, where and how have people tapped into the battery to connect the power? I have a red wire which connects into the harness and to the ignition via the vehicle harness which I have connected, and a yellow wire with an in-line fuse/choke coil which it says in the instructions needs to be connected directly to the battery and a black ground - neither of which are very long...

Thanks for all the help offered so far

Andy

Watch out with the yellow wires. The instructions for my bespoke interface (to go with my Blaupunkt DAB HU) stated, and I quote, "yellow wires indicate airbag and seatbelt pretensioner wiring which, if damaged or disconnected, can cause serious hazards".

I remember taking the ground wire to a whole bunch of other ground wires which terminate on a bolt above throttle pedal somewhere.

The live cable went through the bulkhead somewhere behind the battery (take battery out to get access).

Reasonably sure I had to extend both cables to reach, but might only have been the live one...

I lengthened this wire by a few inches and connected it to one of the spare connectors on the fuse box (which is under your right knee).

Thanks everyone for your help! - I'm now finally sorted ( )

I must have got out of bed the wrong side this morning since the Alpine harness comes with a handy (!) double conector for the power lead from the car loom and the fused choke coil with fuse. Once both were plugged in hey presto! - everyhting working.

The difference in sound quality is absolutely bloody fantastic and I'm chuffed to bits. Just have to wait for my IPod adaptor to arrive and get all that sorted.

No more crappy sound on the motorway/with the roof down - bloody wonderful!

As an aside, the S2000 is the only car I have had where you can definately see where the money was saved - engine, transmission, gearbox and chassis all superb...brake calipers, standard stereo and wheels a bit piss poor for a

If in doubt read the manual !

Did you get a KCE dash interface as well?

That will just plug in between the alpine connector and the Honda connector!
