hi fi
the dealer told me the hi fi on my 2005 is alpine is this true ? is there a good up grade with changer in the boot . i have a sony mini disc from my mr2 will it work in my s2k
i dont know about what hifi is fitted to the 2005 but you are very limited to what you can connect to the normal honda head unit. i am currently looking at alpine head units to go in mine. somebody will give you good advice regarding hifi once they see the thread.
timdon, I'm not so sure the standard hifi in the S2K is alpine. I know a lot of people say this however, when I removed my factory fit hifi & took it bits, it said Pioneer underneath the lid
that car was an (03) S2K. I now have a (54) S2K which has the same single CD hifi as my old (03). IF the spec has changed, then maybe your dealer is right, though I'm not aware of a spec change. Can anyone else add???
timdon, if you're thinking of adding a CD changer to your standard S2K hifi, then personally, I would not bother unless your sole reason is simply for extra capacity. The standard hifi in my S2K is weak & the speakers are poor to be honest. I'll be replacing my entire hifi when the weather warms up.
If your looking to install your Sony MD in place of your standard Honda hifi, so long as the unit is the same size then it should fit into your S2K. To get your Sony MD to work in your S2K, you'll need to buy a special cable (from any decent car audio shop) which will convert your Honda wiring harness to (ISO - this is a generic standard which aftermarket car hifi's conform to) IF your Sony MD was bought separately i.e. did not come as standard fit in your MR2, then you should be OK. In my experience most modern aftermarket car hifi's comply with the ISO standard. If your Sony MD came as standard with you MR2, seek further clarity from an audio specialist - they will know for sure - this is because I've no idea what standard Toyota wiring looms are made to (in the context of connecting to the back of a car hifi branded as Sony) i.e. ISO or Toyota?
Timdon, I don't claim to be an authority on car hifi, though I have installed & repaired many. This is the route I have always taken to achieve a successful audio install.
One more thing.....If you install the Sony MD you will not be able to control your Sony MD from the dash mounted audio controls in your S2K. You will need to buy a converter (If Sony make one???) to enable the use of your dash mounted controls. You may find only limited functionality of your dash mounted controls even when you fit the converter as in my case. Hope this helps

I believe the pre-02 cars have an alpine unit .
The interface between the two was specific to Honda.

You can buy a programable interface that allows you use the dash controls with a Sony head unit.
