I don't have it but know that the instructions tell you to use some Loctite to fix it in place when you screw it on and get the design lined up correctly.

Hmm thats a ghetto way of doing it and it could potentially come loose if you have to use loctite to not fully screw it on all the way down just to line it up? I have sent them an email enquiring this so we'll see what they say.

I've had them before. They are engineered to fit perfectly.

Grittyshaker is right. I read this either on Rick's site (although I can't find it now) or with the installation instructions that came with the knob (I don't have the engraved version).

There's no way Rick could manufacture the knob to ensure the engraving lined up on the thread of everyone's shaft, so seems like a reasonable solution even if it means it might sit a couple of mm's higher because of it. If you are worried about it, don't go for the engraving, after all you know where the gears are on the car

The details are on Ricks site somewhere. He has PDF's of the installation instructions on there with the details IIRC.

Why not? Honda's manufacturing process should ensure that every shaft has identical thread and pitch. So if that is the case, then why can't they just match one up and engrave them all the same?

I just like the look of the 6Sp engraved on it as opposed to plain but if there is an amount of uncertainty then I would be better off with the plain one.

That's the point. I don't think either of us know what the manufacturing process is, I'm just guessing that the thread alignment isn't consistent (it could be!). The stock knob has a locking nut, so my assumption is that the thread won't be aligned consistently as with stock you align it and then lock it into place.
Also, I have definitely seen Rick's instructions stating that if the engraving doesn't align then there is a need to loctite the knob into place.

At the end of the day, I think there's a reasonable risk that the engraving won't align with the knob screwed all the way down, you need to decide whether that's acceptable to you. Personally I went with plain, cheaper and no alignment issues.

Use the loctite - aside from being a pain to find in this country - it works very well. No chance the shift is going to come loose, but a sharp twist should dislodge it for removal. Mine definitely does not sit as low as Jamie's.......weird.

Jamie - does yours bottom out because the shaft meets the top of the knob inside? Or because the aperture at the bottom becomes tight against the widening shaft?

It's a bit hard to tell tbh Phil. I think it's because the aperture touches the wider part of the shaft.

My shaft must widen higher up than yours. Either that or the leather gater is higher on yours. Either way, very happy with mine. Engraving lines up with the loctite, its solid and the shift is excellent.
