Default JDM Battery Specs

The battery on my S just died on my a few days ago (even though it was on trickle charging). I am blaming it on the stupidly cold weather and my lack of use.

Anyway, I've decided to get a replacement battery, but my local honda (Lookers Nottingham) does not stock any S2000 battery.

Looking through all the previous information available, I am aware that my JDM S might have two possible choice:

- Halfords HB054 or
- Nissan Micra Battery

My question is, what are the important specs that I need to know? I found a nissan micra battery on ebay with the specs as follow:

12V 40AH 300CCA

Is this sufficient to power up the S? The reason I am worried is because the HB054 is

12V 45AH 330CCA

Thank you.

The dealer should be able to order one in, if not try another dealer. They cost around £46 (£70 including fitting, but it's a 5 minute job). Part number is: H31500ST3100HE

Do check that the JDM has the same battery as a UK car first though, I'm sure someone will be along in a minute.

doesnt really matter as long as it has jap terminals (smaller diameter than euro) and fits the battery tray.

HB057 also fits, i had the size smaller than the hb054 ( i believe) battery and that is still going strong after four years! I used to joke saying it was a lightweight racing battery!

If your worried about battery capacity my advice would be to take your battery tray to Hellfrauds (or wherever), find the biggest battery that can be accommodated bearing in mind the size and orientation of the terminals.

It has smaller terminals. I bought the Honda one, then discovered it wouldn't fit (they took it back). I now have an HB054 from Halfords which is still going strong despite being left for weeks in cold weather.

Unless you have a monster ICE install and leave it on without the engine running, I wouldn't worry about it. If your car starts first time from cold (it's an S2000 so it will), 40AH just means less ridiculously over specified than 45AH.

yeah, I an actually aware of the small diameter terminals.

dembo, are you saying that 40AH is actually more than required? what's the minimum for both Ah and cold cranking?

I wouldn't like to guess a number, but it stands to reason that if it always starts first time after a second or so turning over, it doesn't need a big battery. A friend of mine has one of those small gel racing batteries (about the size of a wallet) wired into his FTO, and he never has any problems with that from cold.

If yours is the original battery from 2000, it's done pretty well. Mine died about 2 years ago.

Thank you for all the replies.

In the end, i ordered a 12V 40AH 360CCA from an ebay seller (alpha-products-man). They were very helpful through the phone and says that the battery will reach me tomorrow. Pretty good value too, £43 including shipping.

Can't wait to use my car again!!
