Default JDM key help

Picked up a lovely montecarlo blue 1999 jdm S2000 today & am loving it.

It only came with one key with separate selca aftermaket cat 1 alarm.

Am I right in thinking that with jdm I can just get a spare key cut or does it have to be coded.

thanks

It can just be cut. I need one as well. The blank keys are a bit pricey though.

Not sure about the cutting. Stole this from an old thread though.

Spare Key

Not cheap as you can see.

There is no chip in them so its a simple cut.

bugger paying all that for a spare s2000 key, as long as you got the one its fine. Just get a shitty blank and leave that one in the safe for emergencies.

I need to get a spare to and ive got the JDM. ive heard folk on here saying they can pop the boot with their key, wonder if i get the UK key, and have someone to program it, wether i can get the boot to pop or not.

Doesn't seem likely they'd put in all the electronics and the solenoid, and then not give you the key to activate it.

Some people pay good money for that amount of weight saving.

I can pop the boot with the supplied separate key fob.

That must be an aftermarket fitment I would have thought. Mine's an MY99 and doesn't have that.
Unless the previous owner just lost the fob which is possible.

I've been trying to get a spare key/fob for my JDM for ages, the local dealer ordered both parts but is still waiting (months later) for one (can't remember which bit, must chase them)!

When I ordered it they told me I could get it cut anywhere as they can't do the cutting bit themselves.

I can pop the boot open with the separate fob thing for my key though..
