The problem seems to be diagnosis, when you listen to this in the early stages, it just sounds like a noisy valve train.
The 'noise' is loudest on the inlet side of the top of the engine, just about 6" away from the front of the block next to one of the head bolts. When you listen with a screwdriver, it really does sound markedly different to everywhere else and is a metallic clattering, not the sewing machine hum it should be.

Blimey - in the words of McEnro "you cannot be serious" ....
QC someone said - get the records, some change control has been missed here and validation was missing.
Glad Gaxxy and Bristol Honda stepped up to the mark again, but dear Christ am I pleased I went with "better the devil you know" versus buying a 09 plate S!
I hope you get the whole sorry matter sorted soon.

I could cry as I type this:
Jenson does indeed have the Gaspode Death Rattle - a new engine is required
Jenson returned to the Bristol Honda fold this morning (thanks Gaxxy) where the living-legend-that-is-Kevin confirmed the terminal diagnosis within minutes. So Jenson is staying here for further open-heart surgery whilst I have the pleasure of another Bristol Bullet.
My heartfelt thanks to the Bristol Honda team for once again stepping up to the plate

Welcome to the 3 engine club! There aren't many of us.
Though i think i still hold the record with 5 engines in 2 S2000's.

In my opinion, a new thread should be created with all the failures in list form with details as follows:
YOM:
Mileage on engine when it failed:
Engine number:
Symptoms of the engine:
Diagnose: (if found)
This should help other members and "IF" any Honda officials want to have a look, they won't need to go through all this long thread giving up half way.
The thread should be kept locked and only a moderator should be able to add/edit it.

Good afternoon all.... a very quick update
1. No swarf in the oil or sump.
2. No visible damage to shells.
Engine is now out of Jenson awaiting delivery of replacement from HUK.
After hearing it first thing this morning, my immediate reaction was Bokkie has changed the engine for a Perkins Diesel
We will be looking further into the old engine when time allows.
Edit- Trip, we know that HUK do read this thread, & i am sure they shiver every time it appears in "active topics"

Many thanks to you all for your kind words & support
Today has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster - Bristol Honda singlehandedly attempt to restore faith and are FANTASTIC but TBH I am alarmed at joining the 3 engine club and have some serious questions for HUK around the Honda control process (good call Lady B ) - I thought Lean 6 Sigma was stronger than this!
Huge thanks to Gaxxy & Kevin for cracking on apace with the engine replacement. Fingers crossed a Japanese QC'd one is forthcoming from HUK within the week.
Trip, I think a rollcall of all the failed engines via a separate thread is a good idea but I agree with Gaxxy, this thread (which I started when Jenson's first engine failed) has:
high visibility within HUK,
enables others to log their experiences in a central place and
serves as a good outlet for discussion.
I also intend to update it with progress on Jenson to provide concerned parties with visibility of what's transpiring.
