Damn it Dawn, I was about to put the hardtop on my car this weekend, now your post has made me reconsider, however i am worried about all the frost we have been having of late and that it might damage my softtop, is this likely? My car is parked outside day and night unfortunatley, but I do love driving with the top down day or night most of the time.
still some arse put a knife through the rear screen of my softy, so i need a new one anyway!!

I've been out with the top down day and night over the last week and been getting weird looks - must be something about Essex
But I've just read this thread
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=550955
about the possibility of damaging the roof when folding it back when it's very cold.
Does anyone know how cold it has to be for the roof to be damaged? The temperature in my garage has gone down to 3 degrees and no problems so far but I don't want risk the possibility of damaging the roof.

I say to Bassoctopus if you're tired of roof down action you're tired of life. I certainly haven't lost my joie de vivre after over thirty years of topless motoring.
The worry of a cracked plastic screen puts me off lowering at this time of year too.
This is my first year of using it as a winter car, and I'm sure that has some bearing on my lack of roof down action too!

It's a shame for you lot up there Bassoctopus, I know that your weather has been rubbish. We've been very lucky down here in Essex. We've not only had sunshine but the roads have been dry, which is good for me considering the state of my rear tyres.

I never drive with the roof up unless it is raining,
and only if its raining hard enough to hit you when you are driving......
.... or if its too cold for the roof to fold nicely.
I haven't got round to wearing a coat in the car yet this year, never mind a balaclava!

I am the same on the whole, however i am worried about dropping the roof when there is ice on it, and that has been the case for the last 3 days here. I am considering putting the hardtop on over the weekend but I have just been out today the sun is shining, it's damn cold but it was fantastic just to be able to drop the roof on a whim like that and enjoy some top down driving with the heater on full blast

It's been nice and crisp over the wall, too. Had a great blast along the Borders road on Saturday on the way back from Donington. Chuffing freezing, but no rain. So clear, in fact, that I almost came off the road a couple of times after glancing up at the stars, they were so eye-catching.
