Default metal/plastic dashboard disc

I don't like the suction phone mount blocking part of my view and want to find a disc that will stick to the curved vinyl S2000 dash which will allow the suction pad to work. Halfords have one but it says it needs to be mounted on a flat surface. The curve of the dash is not too pronounced so wondering if:

will it work?
will it look pig ugly?
will it ever come off if I change my mind?
have you got one and where did you get it?
is there anyone, apart from me, not at the Megameet?

The Modifry mount really is the best option I've come across.

I wouldn't be without mine now.

Not really answering what you're asking but just suggesting some alternatives. Like you I don't like the big suction things obstructing my view and I don't like the fact that the modifry bracket is so ugly in its fixed position when not in use. So I bought these little vent magnets by a company called tetrax, they're very small and their placement means that they're hidden quite well in amongst the controls. I haven't had any problems with anything coming loose as of yet. A word of caution if you do decide to go this route, tetrax make three types of this magnet. The cheapest one is basically just a sticky on job that you can stick to any part of the car. The most expensive clamps onto the the air vent, it has a X shaped backing plate which holds the phone firmly and prevents it from moving about when you use it. HOWEVER this does not fit the driver side air vents as I discovered because the X part is too big for the small vents. It will fit happily into the passenger side air vent. Lastly the middle of the range is another vent magnet, just minus the X bracing part. This is what I currently use to hold my iPhone and iPod. But because it lacks the X brace it does mean my iPhone/pod does tilt around a little bit when I operate it. It's something I'm willing to put up with though because of the stealthy way it looks. I'll take a photo for you if you want to see how it looks.
My backup plan should the magnets have failed was to buy some sticky black Velcro tape, stick the soft loop side onto the car interior dash and the hook side onto the backs of my iGadget cases. I think this wouldn't look too out of place if the colour was a close enough match to the interior of the car and the Velcro was cut relatively small. Something to try for the future methinks.
Sorry for the long long post, I get carried away most of the time

thanks GaryB and NicoS - yes picture please. Even if I don't go down this latter route, others might and I am intrigued to see how it works.

I have ordered a disk, as it's fairly inexpensive, and I rekon I can try before committing with a bit of gaffer tape.

I bought a universal suction mount (exo mount) that would stick on the dashboard, it worked fine but I opted for the modifry mount with Brodit phone holder and it's miles better IMO. Also the suction mount left an impression on the dash L:

Will get some pics of my phone in the mount shortly for you.

I use one of these which just sits anywhere on the top of the dash and stays in place by friction. Easily removed each time and doesn't mark the dash.
