It passed the MOT this weekend with no problems, so it appears that you can drive a few miles on three cylinders without overheating the cat (probably best not to try it though).

nothing todo with overheating the cat.
it's todo with petrol will strip the platinum off the catalyst mesh and render the cat ineffective.
