I had a TPS failure on mine, the dealer took it off the car, cleaned it up and made some adjusments (or so they say) and its been better than ever since.

Variations in production, the ECU might want to see 0.45v from the TPS with the throttle shut. Just bolting on a new one could show 0.38 for example and could throw a CEL.
I have a fair bit of experience with OEM vehicle production and this is why the dealer will go for the safe option, they don't have the equipment (nor data most probably).
Sorry misunderstood - I'm out my depth.

[QUOTE=Saxo Boy,Nov 2 2006, 05:58 AM] Normally I apply a 'break it = upgrade it' policy to my cars but recently I've come to realise that I'm going to have to sell the S2000 in which case it'll be going back to standard anyway.

Cable - I would be surprised if it were wear and tear so early on, or contamination (its a sealed unit), especially if it is a carbon pot.
I agree, he asked what could not what did.
And the analogy of the guitar pot was just a rough guide to how it worked (most guitar pots are sealed units too but with any device that causes friction, you get wear and tear)

also, you have never seen the wee tearaway drive
