Default New Engine

I know there has been a tonne of threads on this subject but they are usually around what the US can get their hands on easily...

What oil do you use in your car??

10w40? and which specific brand? I don't wanna risk another engine... I used to use castrol Magnatec 10w40... suffice? change every 7000 miles?

Also would an oil cooler be a good idea for an NA? I will be going FI in the future and wanna keep this motor perfect! I am installing oil pressure and temp gauges as soon as I get the car back and unsure on if the cooler is needed or not?

Thanks for all your help...

As you spotted plenty of what oil threads.

The castrol edge Turbo diesel seems very popular these days.

No need for an oil cooler when NA.
If you care going FI - then I'm convinced the wisdom is yes.

Be careful when going FI - a number of bottomless pit horror stories out there.

Or .. get a Laskey racing engine which is designed to take up to 700hp.

I have seen several NA cars using an oil cooler, the only way to determine if you need one or not is as what you have suggest by fitted an oil temp gauge. As most people do not have one fitted not correct to advise as to whether you need one or not as there is no way to determine oil temp on the OEM guages. I suggest you use Defi electronic guages and get an oil plate adapter to take oil temp and pressure from where the oil filter sits. If you are going to use the car on track ofter it is also a wise precaution to fit a baffle oil sump, Mugen, Spoon or Toda are fine.

As for Laskey blocks, there is only one in the UK I think toda internals are just as good

Stylish photo Nick.

Is your car converted to run on hydrogen, or have you tried to stash a dinghy in the boot?

I think the number of engine failures (NA-speaking) is relatively few, but can be put down to either weakened valves, improper timing chain changes or lubrication issues.

The former is probably due to bouncing off the rev limiter.

Merely changing the TCT is often insufficient - the chain and sprockets may be worn and not the tensioner!

The oil may overheat on track days; probably safer to change the oil afterwards (like I don't!) rather than to prat around with gauges & coolers, since it's only

Cheers for the help,

but would you say it's best for 10w30 or 10w40 or 5w30?

Thanks

I've used various oil from 0W40 to 10W30
So long as it is of know quality and changed regularly I'd not worry.
No need for an oil cooler NA
Many FI cars don't bother (including me )
Though I have oil temp, oil pressure and air/fuel ratio right in front of me
