Default Odd Problem

Well apart from the CEL issue early last month and this month (which has gone again - car is booked for a compression test tomorrow - i think it was blocked injectors though).. I got into my car the other week, only to find that the Volume control on the dash is "stuck"!!

No idea how, why or what has happened to get it to this state as it was working when i got out the night before, but basically, the control wont push 'up'. Turning the volume down with it seems to work ok, but no matter how hard i push up on it, it wont budge from its neutral position!?

Im not sure if i maybe knocked it with my knee or something, but is unlikely. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it easy to get behind the control to see if there is something broken or blocking it in anyway? its very odd indeed!
I did a search for Dash removal/volume removal etc, but could only find the thread detailing how to remove the entire dashboard for a "refresh". I dont really want to go down that route for a 2inch peice of plastic...

I've been making do for the past few weeks by twidling my knob but it's starting to become annoying! Any ideas?

Cheers
Jamie

You have to remove the entire faceplate of the dash (having lowered the steering column, removed steering cowl etc) to get behind the volume control switch. It's a little fiddly but not difficult.

i know its a long shot but why dont you disconnect the battery for a bit, reset the code for the radio ect , its the least labour intensive option

no its physically stuck, Red. It literally will not push up almost as if something has locked it, if that makes any sense. So i dont think its electrical

Looks like a job for a weekend when the weather is better i guess...
Have you got a link for the faceplate removal loft - if not i'll try and find that other thread for the dash 'refresh'.

Another long shot - but you could try going to your local garage and use the air hose to blast a jet of air up from underneath the dash. If its just a bit of debris from somewhere that's jamming the switch then you might just dislodge it (hopefully) and save yourself a whole load of work taking the dash apart.

Very odd; sounds like the switch has been damaged internally, rather than debris.

To save playing mean pissball, I'd get one from a breakers & swap over...

That would be my plan too.
