leave it in, but ask them why they didn;t do as you'd asked, even after a reminder..

it isn't going to do any damage to your engine. ask for a top-up to match as recompense, and then at the next service, probably 3500 miles, re-think where you get it done.

shell did a special promotion last year, where they gave away a really nice top-up pack, as described above. they don't do it anymore. shame.

I turned up for a recent service expecting them to be able to provide fully synth, which they couldn't to my susprise. I wont have anything but fully synth in the car, so I asked them to leave it and I will come back with some oil of my choice

I have no issue with Magnatec, except on a turbocharged car, where it is likely to crack (break down) under exess load / temps. I still prefer a fully synthetic oil though, and if you look at the benefit over cost, its not worth thinking about. The high revving characteristics of the VTEC would more lend itself to an oil with a good shear strength...

It is never good practice to mix oils, especially where different viscosities and mixes of semi / full synth are concerned. Its not worth the risk for what it costs...

If you requested they change it, I would expect them to remedy the problem FOC.

acutally, I take back what I said, didn't really consider the concerns ofver it being only semi.

get them to swap if foc, keep to synthetic.

I used semi-synthetic Magnatec until recently and never had any problems.

It wont be a problem, just a fully synth is better suited IMO.

At my recent 27k service, I asked St Andrews Honda to let me know what oil they used and they confirmed they refilled with Esso Ultron fully synthetic. I agree with AE in that I don't think there is such a thing as "Honda oil", at least not in the UK.

The oil used clearly varies from dealer to dealer.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. After much deliberation I've decided I'm not happy with the idea of using semi synthetic at 9000rpm and I've asked the dealer to collect my car next week to replace the oil and filter. They also agreed to reimburse the fuel costs (50 mile round trip = more than
