Default Perplexing

I have posted about this before ages ago, but can't find the post.

Went to the Cotswolds this past weekend, and after using the TomTom "Shortest Route" to haul through lots of country roads, I noticed a strange squeak/rattle from the front left of the car (at least thats where it appears to come from).

I have had this noise before - when I went to Wales a while back - but it subsequently disappeared. It squeaks over bumps basically. However, the squeak only appears once you have been driving over bumpy roads for a while.

Does not appear to be steering related - turning wheel etc does not generate it. Speed has not effect, there at high/low speed. I got out and bounced the car up and down by the wheel arch - no noise.

I have also had Chris Franklin do an alignment since I last heard it. He did not spot anything.

Its very odd - and the fact its intermittent makes it a complete f**ker to track down. Any helpful suggestions? I have oiled the bonnet catch already....

Rear view mirror?

Apparently there is a screw underneath that can come lose.

Maybe!

Funny stuff is suspension - esp as it has rubber components in it.

sounds daft but if there is nothing wrong try spraying the suspension with Waxoyl. Can't hurt and might make it quieter.

These noises can ofen be caused by slight movement of springs on spring pans or by the rubber bushes flexing.

Does it do it with the roof up/ down or both?
I had an annoying squeak where the hood frame contacts the adjustable stop bolt. A small piece of felt applied with double sided tape stopped it.

Just a thought, and I'm no expert... but it appears that there are mechanical xenon sensors on the passenger side of the car at the front and the back... my rear one is making an annoying noise (I thought the wheel was falling off). Took it to the dealer and they are gonna replace it for a large number of sterling... . To start with the noise was fairly irregular but has got more persistent.... you might be in the early stages of having a problem with the front sensor....

Has happened with softtop up and down.

Very clearly related to going over bumps - what I cannot rationalise is how it only seems to happen once the car has been going over numpy(ish) roads for a while. I could take it out for a spin now and nothing.....almost like something warms up and starts to squeak.....
