Given your requirements, I have to go along with GSi's selection with the Mitsubishi fitting the bill in all, except that it's probably more expensive than my Porker to run!

How about getting your name down for a new SLK??
There's going to be some interesting engine options and the residuals will be rock solid for a few years.....

The main problem with your requirement re practicallity, is that if you want 4 useable seats then they'll be relatively common.

-------------------------------------------------------
- what about the Clio V6?

The reviews of the new version which I've read have been almost universally full of praise for it. It's sporty, it's rare, it's quite good-looking (IMO) in a subtlely overstated way, it's supposed to be fun to drive - evo rated it third (I think) in their Car of The Year 2003.
--------------------------------------------------------
My boy tried one earlier this year, before choosing and buying a Clio Sport 172. He is a bike racer and knows how to go fast, having inherited it from his Dad. He said the V6 Clio was frankly not much different in performance to the 172, but the price was!
He traded in his Integra Type R for the Clio and now wishes he had'nt, for one simple reason; called V-Tec. He misses it like crazy. He says the Clio is simply OK. Not remarkable, just OK. Maybe not a wise choice.

I never said that I needed 4 seats. I said the replacement would have to be as practical as the S. I think you have me confused with my twin bro MT who I can confirm is seeking a 4 seater to drive me and my friends around in.

TVR Tamora or Tuscan maybe?
Pick an 02 Tamora for 28k maybe less at this time of year. More fun than most of the above, apart from the VXT, but could be a bit more hassle as well.

TVR: reliability is a major factor for me and this make will not provide it and if it does I will still be nervous anytime I drive it in case it breaks down. Sorry but this is one of my criteria. Thanks for the suggestion because I would like nothing better that a v8 and this would be a great car to own.

if money and residuals no object and you are buying new I think I'd go Z4-3.0

if buying 2nd hand, for 32-35K you could buy the current shape 996 (maybe less if shopping around).

if worried about residuals and buying new, then Scoob STI (but really crap MPG i beleive)

If you are going to keep the car < 1yr I'd consider the RX8 or the Datsun-I personally wouldn't buy if keeping any longer because I'd be worried about residuals

my 2p
