Default Puncture!

Had my first "incident" with the car on the weekend. Just drove 200 odd miles back to London from Wales and "pop" goes the rear tyre - just as I was pulling into my street!

Upon inspection, I found the end of a nail head sticking through the center of the tyre. Now I've done 5k miles on the rear tyres, and the prospect of replacing both so soon after Xmas was not nice. A word of advice for anyone who gets a puncture in the rear tyre - make sure you swap out one of the front tyres for the duff rear - put the space-saver on the front wheel if you value your diff/life!

After 1 hour of tyre swapping, i dragged the S to the honda dealer - the orange spacesaver does nothing for your street cred - avoid any "visible" routes to the garage if at all possible! Expecting the worst, and prepared top part with

I would feel a little nervous using a puncture repaired tyre. Think of this as an opportunity to fit F1s.

I had two rear punctures, both repaired, both fine. You are okay unless the puncture is near the edge, then they wont repair them. The tyres flex more near the tyre walls, cornering etc. Theres no way I would change them unless the tyre fitter said it could be dangerous. Over the years Ive had quite a few tyres repaired on performance cars without any problems at all.

I had a slow puncture on a rear tyre from a nail after 2,000 miles that was repaired ok. Admittedly not a big enough hole that it audibly or visibly deflated the tyre.

I was a bit nervous at first about hard acceleration / high speed driving but everything was fine and I'm now on almost 8,000 miles and down to about 3-4mm tread on the rears.

Just glad that I checked the tyre pressures every week or it could have been nasty!!

Gazbert,

I've also had a slow puncture repaired - also on the rear. Is there a conspiracy against S2ks?

We should be told!

I wouldn't worry in the slightest about repairs in the treaded area, so long as they are carried out by a reputable garage and not with the pushbike repair kit.

Like Colin, I've had lots of repairs like this over the years, with no probs at all.

I can see why 'knowing' it has been done might make you feel nervous but I would just ask this. How many people get down under the car and really inspect their tyres regualarly, particularly the hidden insides?

I find it far more sobering that there could be a cut or split just waiting to let go, so I check weekly, and always before going out if I know I going to be giving the car some stick!
