Hi people,

Just wondering if anyone could throw some ideas up as to what the problem I had this morning could be?

Went out to my car at 5:15am to go to work, unlocked the car/disarmed the alarm via the key fob as usual, as soon as I pushed the start button the alrm went off! Tried locking and unlocking and then starting again a few times but with the same result. Organised a lift to work, when I got back from work I went straight out to try the car again and it started first time? Left it for a while and then tried it again to make sure and it started first time again.

I wondered whether my battery was dead when it happened this morning, but since it's started first time this afternoon i now beg to differ.

Anyone else had anything like this happen to them? Is it just one of those one off unexplainable things?

Cheers
Dave

Yep had same problem with my alarm last year, as soon as I pressed the start button the alarm sounded even though I had disarmed it. Tried a new battery ,was ok for couple days but alarm started playing up again.Car would start fine. I reckon a short in the alarm was flattening the battery then the alarm is setup to detect a flat battery so activated the siren. So alarm removed by snipping wires in engine bay. This does not affect the imobiliser in any way. The new battery I fitted has been perfectly charged ever since. Another theory is there are some rechargeable cells inside the alarm unit itself ....... after 10 years or so they die . Solution .............. replace alarm. good luck.

Thanks a lot for this info, a part of me has been wondering all along whether it was a fault with the alarm itself and now it sounds as though it could be. Went and had a new battery fitted today, they tested the old one before they removed it and it was knackered. Now i'm worried that the alarm is gonna drain this battery now! I'm tempted to snip the wires asap now i know about this. If the alarm goes off tomorrow morning when i start it, and if it starts fine without the alarm going off when i get home in the afternoon, it will be the 3rd day on the trot it's done this.

If the alarm starts playing up again even with the new main battery being fitted then you can be pretty sure it's a fault in the alarm. I think the alarms were fitted after they were shipped from Japan for the UK market. They definitely have an internal battery inside the siren casing fyi. Personally I would wait for the alarm to play up again before considering snipping the wires to the siren unit just incase it was only the main car battery. ie it would be a shame to snip the wires for the wrong reason.... best to wait and see, you'll find out soon enough ;-)
