Default Rear Arch lips

Just been cleaning my rear arches - wow, they collect a lot of crud! This will easily be the downfall of most in the next 10 years!

Anyway, if you have a spare hour,

Take the rubber protector things off,
give em a clean,
get rid of all the crud stuck on the inside of the lip,
put it back together! (apply some protectant if you have any)

^^ Bin and paint/seal it up - the rubber traps water and can assist in the rust badger

Or just clean and get your fenders rolled. Problem solved. I have to clean this area out on every car I roll and yeah your be amazing by the amount of crap that sits in there. Just removing the rubber won't stop it either. Once they are rolled flat this problem is solved.

Done mine when first got car,and all cars with them fitted ,and cleaned twice yearly or when needed.
They protect from stone chips and the Shot Blasting affect from water and road dirt

Honda put them there for the reason noodels mentioned, the corrosion is mainly caused by poor maintenance,

And having never removed mine for 12 years there wasn't any rust in there , the rust was beyond the rubber where Mr Honda didn't apply any anti chip paint/underseal for an Inch or so, right iin the path of the shot blast effect as Ray described , this is where I had some surface rust starting .
My rubbers where in poor condition so they were binned in any case .

I keep the area clean, either jet wash it or run the hose and clean it with your finger. The amount of crap that came off mine considering it lived in a garage and was rarely used.

Even if it is flat, since it's not airtight, won't there still be a channel that can hold some of the crud and water?
