Default Refurbish the Gear Knob

So my 05 S2000, was reasonably low miles when I got it, 42k, now 44k.

Matey who had it for 5-6 years before me, wore rings on his left hand, and the gearknob looks fairly 'worn' as a result.

I've ordered an FN2 Hong Kong gearknob, and while the OEM one is off, I want to refurbish it.

Are there any companies/members who will do this for me, or is it something I can do myself? Is it even possible?

/cue a load of knob jokes

I did my knob with a bit of sand paper (think it was 240 grit ?) take the lacquer off, then used my dual action polishing machine with a medium cut pad and compound. Turned the machine to face upwards and set it going then just held my knob and reseted it on the spinning pad - buffed it up in no time !

I screwed mine into a threaded bar, and fitted it to a pillar drill.

Slow RPM and application of a pad and then it polished it up very quickly!

Gary

I can give it a go for you.. I have every grit sand paper imaginable and loads of polishing compounds / wheels.. Plus you're only up the road.

Can't be as hard as my turbo housing was.

Or if you're feeling adventurous we could throw some powder coat over it?

Drop me a PM if you want a hand.
