Removal of rear view mirror
Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the rear view mirror mounting that attaches to the wind screen? I'm guessing it's bonded to the front screen.
I'm looking to install a smaller aftermarket rear view mirror and I've found one that uses a suction cup to attach to the screen and this bracket would get in the way if I can't remove it.

don't know the precise answer.. however
i once knocked the wingmirror off the screen of a nice ford fiesta i had & they re-sold me the sticky piece that attaches it to the windscreen.
needless to say i rushed the job & didn't give the sticky label a clean surface to attach itself to
then, a few days later, several mates up in the car & a few mates ripping me for bits & bobs, we honked at a bird & the damn thing departed the windscreen
needless to say how much the ripping continued!

Funnily enough, the very first time I test drove an S2000 at a Honda dealer, the rear view mirror fell off the instant the salesman touched it . We then both tried and failed to reatach it, but I ended up doing a test drive with no rear view mirror.
So yes they definitely do come off.

MOT testers have been known to fail suction cup attached rear-view mirrors, especially if it comes off in their hand.
If that's the case then I might have to leave the mounting plate in place and work around it. Then when it's MoT time pop the original back on.

I remember when my windscreen was replaced we had trouble with the rear view mirror. There's a plastic sleeve that covers the fitting - easily slides off - and then the mirror is secured with a screw. However, in my case, a metal clip seemed to be left over after we'd refitted it. It definitely belonged to the fitting, but we couldn't see where it went and, given the mirror seemed secure, we just ignored it ...
