I've bitten the bullet and decided that I'm going to need to respray the front bumper to get rid of the multitude of stone chips that have adorned it. I did look into getting it done by ChipsAway, and even contemplated using touch-up on it myself but there are so many a respray is probably the only cosmetically viable option.

Whilst ringing around locally for quotes (ISONS is a bit too far from me - 2:30 hours+ ) I had a thought about replacing the whole bumper with the MY2004 one, which I'm pretty keen on. I'm pretty sure these bumpers come pre-painted don't they?

The question is - would I be ruining the car by doing this? I'm not necessarily trying to make the car look like something its not, but I just figured for the sort of money I'm being quoted (

Not prepainted unfortunately. You can get an 04 bumper for around

Any thoughts on whether I should retrofit?

On the one hand I suppose it kills two birds with one stone (since I am keen on the 2004 bumper).. but on the other hand I suppose retrofitting in general - at least cosmetically - is viewed as being a bit hackneyed by some people.. making the car out to be something its not, etc.

I'd probably have to do the lights as well if I was actually going to make it look properly 2004 style, and I don't really have any intention (or the funds ) to do that at the moment.

8 replies, and I can only see 2? What the hell is going on? Has the forum server run out of hard disk space or something?

I received a private message from someone too, and that hasn't even appeared in my Inbox either - even though I got the email saying I had a new one?!

Durzel, I would fit the 04 bumper but leave the lights. I dont think it makes any odds as the S only comes in two guises, Gt or roadster so its not as though your putting M3 alloys on a 318. personally I would like to have the 04 front bumper and alloys and put the 00 headlights on my 03, if I had the money.

Thanks a lot.. was definitely thinking of speaking to hardtopguy but I couldn't find the full 2004 bumper on his site, only the lip spoiler.

I will PM him and see what he says - thanks!

Durzel, can you post the details on prices etc as I may be interested. Thanks. Also I want one without any number plate fixings as I want to relocate the plate on the bottom lip of the bumper.
