Cant recommend TomTom ONE highly enough, perfect blend of practicality and functionality, also one of the few satnav units on the market right now with the SIRFstar III chipset for near faultless GPS reception, hasnt lost a lock even once yet.

Tom Tom or Garmin the only ones worth bothering with. The rest are all flawed by comparison. If it's for business use then splash the extra cash.
Full postcode search in the UK is a must.

New Garmins out soon: c500 Streetpilot series:

Seem to be going head to head with TomTom, even with their new models.

Novatech have some indicative prices:

We looked at the Navman 520 and the Tom Tom and bought one of each for our service engineers. We ended up buying 10 more Tom Toms because of the post code look up facility. So much easier to use than the navman.

I went through most of these units before settling on the one I have now: the trusty Alpine INA-N333R Single Din head-unit. My reasons were:

No little black box to hide
No cables to cover my dash
DVD containing ALL roads of Europe
Cold start in less than 30 seconds
MP3, iPod and phone all go through the head-unit
The sound quality of this head-unit is simply stunning!

The iPaq with Tom-Tom was okay, but just not reliable enough, same with the first two TomTom all-in-one boxes. The garmin was nice, but again you needed to have a mounting bracket for the winshield/air-vent.

All depends on how much you REALLy are going to use it, and how much you want to spend. Also, you can find the Alpine INA_N333R on eBay now for about 300 notes, which is an absolute steal! If it needs a service, the Alpine charge a standard 75 notes... for me it made the most sense!
