Default signs of failing bushes

Been trying to find symptoms of failing bushes aside from vague steering and clonking.

My car has issues that I'm not sure are caused by tyres that have gone out of shape or might be worn compliance bushes. Car has done 57k now and the problem started a few weeks ago. Driving down an un-edged country road on a neutral throttle it felt like the back kicked out to the left a couple of times. I put it down to a tramline effect but the car feels like its driving on marbles everywhere except at speed.

When you lift off the gas it feels like the car veers slightly to the left and tonight on a patch of tarmac that I know has less adhesion the back veered left.

Planning to rebush the car next month and change tyres but am also thinking about changing the suspension as well.

Any thoughts on the issues? Haven't had it looked at apart from a quick feel of the tyres which are Avon's and they have about 4mm left.

Lift the rear off the ground and have a pull at everything to see if there is any play .... I had a problem a while back where the bolt on one of my control arms had come loose and it took me a while to locate it.

Calipers were greased up a month ago. Will get under the car and have a look at the weekend if I can.

Have you had the geometry checked recently ? I had a similar feeling in mine before I replaced toe arm and rear lower bushes and then had it aligned - so I can't say if it was the bushes or geo or both.

The other thing is that I'm sure I felt the LSD giving that effect if it locks due to one wheel spinning i.e. putting it on the mud at the side of the un-edged road (there's something to do with zero torque in one wheel that I don't quite understand and havn't read up on enough yet)

The geo was set 6k miles ago but soon after I noticed it starting to drift left slightly but nothing too bad. It's gradually got worse to the point it needs looking at. Trying to nurse it into next month to do everything to it.

It feels as if the rear wheels are pointing inwards and fighting to spin round. No funny wear on tyres and it looks straight.

I'm assuming you've checked pressures?

I've found that you really want to change tyres at 3mm as things start to get bad around then. It maybe a bit more than that with the Avons.

I remember having changed to Avon's on mine many years ago (ZZ3's hadn't long been on sale). Totally uninspirational for the S2000 is my opinion, yet on heavier saloons or FWD, they seem to be a pretty ok tyre, even in the wet. 452's are your best mid ranger if you won't go Bridgestone.

I lost confidence with ZZ3's, irritating when you cant afford to change them until they wear out !

Got a nearly new set of Bridgestones to go on but not until I've done the bushes which will be a mix of mugen and polyflex. Possibly change the suspension as well but still looking into it.

If I do the suspension will probably go koni struts and stock springs.
