This is what I use: http://www.opieoils....engine-oil.aspx

What most of you guys are using: http://www.opieoils....engine-oil.aspx

My guess is they are either much the same.

Sorry if this is slightly taking tread away from original direction!

To the OP. Your oil usage is excessive IMO . Do you see any blue smoke from exhaust if someone gives it a rev in neutral? Or drive behind the vehicle or something to that effect..
The TD version was the only 5w40 available for a long time, and Si, who works for Castrol said it was fine (they are much the same). The red top is newer, so fewer people use it. Probably more relevantly, Halfords only sell the TD version.

What worries me as well is putting 2l of oil in when you are still above the low mark on the disptick. I may be wrong but I thought 1l low to high was right. You may be overfilling your car with oil.

For reference each "X" on the dipstick = 100ml so you can easily keep a record of what's being used and take the guess work out of the equation in the owners manual Honda recommend checking the oil level every time you fill up with fuel.

NEVER let it get off the end of the dipstick. Always fill it to the top "X" and keep it there.

+1 for edge TD.

I've had 2 S2ks, put combined 30k on them using Castrol Edge TD 5W40 every time - no issues. In fact it seems to be a very highly regarded choice of oil!

It sounds excessive consumption wise to me, my 2001 would use oil but probably about half of what you are seeing (and it was 'well used').

Silly question, but you are checking the level on a 100% level surface, and letting it cool down for 15mins after driving? I've had panics before after seeing a reading below the Min to then realize I was on a slight incline which gave a low reading!

This time was on a slight incline and quite cold, that's why I didn't put a huge amount in

2l is still a lot to put in from there I would say. Where is it at now.

Overfilling can damage an engine as well.

Check it when the engine is stone cold. This is the only way you'll get consistent readings.
