Default Throttle cable

Hi All,

Just been out and measured my throttle cable with a view to adjusting after searching on here. Results were: Throttle cable has just over 3/4" slack.

Symptoms:

* Car when slightly tapping the throttle is very jerky. Looks like I cant drive.
* If you hit a bump in the road while your foot is over the peddle it can cause it to jerk extremely easy due to my foot lightly bouncing on the throttle.

Now this has gotten worse as I never noticed it when I first got car but the last few weeks its definately gotten worse. After driving our other car for a week, and getting back in the S, its very prominent.

I notice that 5-6MM is the norm for the cables to be tightened to? True? Is 3/4" too much and would it cause the bouncing I get.

Note - This is not the kangarooing that you get when pulling off in slow traffic due to heat/bog down. This can happen when you havent been sitting in traffic and at 20mph.

Cheers

Should be no more the 1/4".
There is a procedure in the technical FAQ for adjusting it.

Yep I have seen it (after searching)... but that was relating more to the kangooring problem with heat soak. Mine is to do with length on the cable and the bouncing during normal driving

either cable or IACV.

i cleaned my IACV out and it improved the symptoms your experiencing. might be worth cleaning it out reguardless since you have the spanners out!

Thanks for replies so far. 1/4" works out to 6mm so will tighten it up later

Going over a bump and your right foot bouncy the pedal is something that annoys me too (not that it happens often)! Used to happen in my 200SX too, there was a trick/bodge of adding rubber bands to the throttle body to make the return stronger and thus less likely for the weight of your foot to bounce on the pedal but it ruined the pedal feel.. a stronger return spring might work if you can source one/make one?

Let me know if this fixes your jerking problem, as mine does the same, and it is not a heat soak issue for me either. I think it is the clutch personally on its way out.

poor adjusted cable should not induce jerky driving it just means your foot is pushed a bit lower before opening the throttle and the throttle is not fully open when your right foot is burried in the carpet.
clutch should only be jerky whilst engaging if the springs are on the way out, should have no effect on normal driving if it slips at town driving speed youd be unable to get it into vtec range without filling the car with clutch smoke.
id look at a MAP whack, TB and ICV clean before trying any major bits
