Default why change?

some of you guys have changed/ are changing from an older model to a newer model.

Question is why?

The differences are marginal at best.

I can understand the ones with company cars, or those who have gone away from the S and come back?

explain yourselves!

I'm thinking of borrowing a few bits from the '04 onto my '00. For me the '04 has good and bad points.

Pro's:
  • Nicer front bumper
  • More modern looking headlamps
  • Big rims
Con's:
  • Nasty oval pipes
  • Fugly back bumper
  • Busy rear clusters

The restyling is purely a matter of personal taste. I quite like the oval pipes and rear bumper which BB appears to dislike so much. For me, it wouldn't be enough of a reason to swap a 99-03 though.

I had well-documented problems with my 02 which Honda could not or would not diagnose and remedy. I lost faith in the car's handling and couldn't drive it the way I wanted to, so I decided to get rid of it. This was at the time when the 04 had just been announced, so I decided to p/x the 02 against a new 04.

As much as I love the S2000, I do now regret in some ways having gone for more of the same. I've owned an S2000 for almost three years now, so I'm at the stage where I feel like I'm ready for a change - but my current car is less than 18 months old so I can't really justify changing it again and chucking another

The only benefit for my tastes is the nicer wheels, I think they spoiled the front bumper, the front indicators are too visible. I like the rear bumper but the rear lights are too fussy (bit like me ).

I probably won't get another S, I did have a Skyline in mind for my next car until I saw a gorgeous late model Cerbera (LED rear lights and dual lights at the front) at the weekend, I think it was de-catted as it was popping and cracking even when idling and sounded awesome. It got me thinking.....

Why an 04?: Because it is a far superior car, IMHO. [scov dives for cover]

The handling alone does it for me. It is so much easier to handle in corners and especially in getting the power down out of corners. Plus the wheels are pretty and there is more colour choice.

Yes the oval pipes are tacky but that can be fixed.

The reason most of us change up is that our previous S was so damn good and we can afford it.

Like Mark I have a little regret that I suckered myself into buying the same car twice and would urge enthusiasts doing the same to take a step back and think about it. I now see it as possibly a wasted year or so of experiencing what the automotive world has to offer, but that regret is nothing to do with the car itself which, as Scov says is much better than my 01 model in many ways.

This car is more than enough but while there are others to try it seems foolish not to, but then again you also have to accept that some of them may be mistakes and it may cost you. In the case of an 01S to an 04 I have no such worries about whether it was financially worth it, even knowing it helped paying Scov's wages at the time

I was staring at T350Cs on Pistronheads classified last night with a mate - had to remind myself of the cost of my recent mods and give it another 12 months before considering whether to change.

Wages?!! One has not had wages since he served on the fish counter at MacFisheries in Croydon. One has a salary, options and all the paperclips one can steal.
