Default Alpine CDA-9853 Questions

Alpine CDA-9853 head unit.

If anyone has this model, or a similar Alpine unit, I could use some help.

For some reason, every time I get into the car, I have to manually put the IPOD on shuffle. Whenever I turn the car off, it turns the shuffle function off.
I have it hooked up to the KCA-420i Alpine IPOD adapter.

Anyone else have this problem?

Am I so blind or stupid that I'm obviously missing something?

Is it wired incorrectly?

Thanks

Brendan

Hey....I have this headunit, however no IPOD. If you want, we can test your IPOD on my headunit to see if it behaves the same way (to test if what yours is doing is by design or if it's just your setup).

LMK.

I'm home Friday all day if you're free on Friday. Otherwise, Sunday or Monday.

You have my number call me when you can.

that isnt correct operation, mine stays on shuffle, also it continues in the song where it was previously.

verify that your 3 wires are connected correctly. theres only 3.

if you were to leave the ipod in the car for lets say a week, its battery would die. Then you would have to set it to shuffle again. the alpine ipod adapter doesnt charge the ipod when the car is off. (teh gay)

My IPOD itself stays on shuffle, but I cannot use the IPOD when it's connected to the car. You can only use the head unit to control.

It does go back to the same song when I turn the car back on.

My IPOD does turn off about a minute after I turn the car off though. I've never had a problem with the battery running low.

you arent supposed to be able to use the unit while its plugged into the car. I usually disconnect it, and then tool around to find a song, press play, and plug her back in.

I guess it would be better to just learn how to use the alpine interface, but I dont feel like it.

I have the 9833 which is similar, basically even if the shuffle function is on, on the ipod, you usually have to set the MIX DISC function through the deck. I usually just scroll to a playlist, and then hit F, 5, and then 5 again, If you hit 5 only once, it will display Mix Folder, which will shuffle through playlists(I think), I usually only use MIX DISC function, which will shuffle the songs in that playlist, you usually see an icon lightup that shows MIX. You have to usually set this each and every time you turn the car off and on again. And on another note, when the MIX disc function is turned on, you cannot switch to another playlist, you would have to deactivate the MIX DISC function and then search for another playlist. Again, I have th 9833- so the numbers and functions may be different, but I'm sure its probably similar if it still uses the KCA 420 interface. Read the KCA 420 manual, and your deck manual, spending 30 minutes to learn all the functions will let you use all the functions down the road, and there are PLENTY. Good luck.
