Just smacked a curb...
What's up folks, Just wanted to say what's up. I just picked up an '04 NFR S2K with 10k miles so I decided to register on here. Any other metro-Michigan people in here?
...Second thing, who's nailed a curb with the front end of their car? This pisses me off like know other, mainly because I'm a jackass. I just spun out and smacked one pretty good. I'm finding that the rear end steps out pretty hard on the WOT 1-2 shift. I thought it was something I could control since I was experimenting a bit with it today. I tried demonstrating to a friend of mine a couple hours ago (on an empty 5 lane road). One thing I forgot to account for was how bad the OEM tires get once it gets cold. I shifted into second, and the rear end swung out. I ended up putting the front end up on a curb. I had scrubbed a lot of speed by the time I contacted it, but it was still a pretty hard hit. After collecting my nerves again, I drove it back home, and we jacked it up. The front bumper has got a nice crack and some nasty rash (looks like an OEM lip would cover it up), the splash shields are all messed up (right fender is tore out), the wheel has a very SMALL chunk taken out of it, and the worst part is the radiator core support got pushed back (looks like this took the brunt of the impact). Visually, nothing related to dynamics (arms, etc.) looks bent. I couldn't close the hood after opening it until I removed the hood latch and bent it's mounting point forward a bit. Once I got everything reasonably together, I went out for a drive. The car drives fairly straight, but the steering wheel is off center. It doesn't appear to have wheel balance, vibration, or cooling issues, so I'm happy about that. Hopefully everything is relatively okay in the daylight.
I'm going to start with an alignment and work from there. Any other suggestions or recommendations for good alignment shops in MI? How dangerous is it the run a bent core support? It's spot welded on so it's obviously not a structural piece. I've been reading through the forums and it sounds like this happens a lot; some people are lucky and don't get any damage, others screw quite a bit up. Luckily it's a low-mileage car and not hurting from the midwest rust action like my beater is... suspension removal if needed shouldn't be that tough.
This sucks, it's the second day of owning the car. I should also know better since I've auto-x'd RWD cars several times. I guess you learn the hard way... at least it wasn't worse. Be careful out there everyone, it's hard to account for all the variables that come into play, and react accordingly. On paper, I'd know what to do without any problem, but making it second nature in a sudden incident, that's another story.
Sorry that was so long... just kinda pissed off. Haha, this is like my 3rd post too. Happy Monday all. Any Detroit-Metro S2K owners wanna meet up sometime, I'm down.

Yo Alfie, man that really sucks to hear! there's a place I can tell you about where I got my S aligned...they do it all old school style. If it makes you feel better I did the exact same thing you did but instead of hitting a curb I went up it and hit a wall. It was my third day of owning my s2000. I was amazed how I went threw a brick wall all the way to my windshield and my air bags didn't come out and I didn't get a scratch. BTW the damage is estimated at 6K for my accident, which doesn't include the cost of the wall and the 4 tickets i received.

I'm glad you're okay though. Sounds like a pretty hairy incident. How's the car, back to normal? What kind of insurance hike did you see?
Car is in the process of being fix. The insurance company will not cover the accident because they said it happen in Vegas while I was on vacation. No frame damage and no air bags came out so it could be worse.
