Default Oil changes

Where do you guys go for oil changes? Also whats it cost?

Normally I'd do it myself at a buddies house but I dont have a garage to do it in and my buddies lift has cars on it, and I am not gunna ask him to take em off just to let me change my oil cuz they are nice cars and they dont go out in the winter with snow...

Also what oil weight do you use during the winter, or do you not change from winter to summer oils?

Also perhaps an update on what oil people are using, I know people had a discussion on the oils they used but people were trying new stuff, hows everyone like the oils they tried?

I don't reccomend Mobil1 for the S2000. I had some issues that I attribute (rightfully or not) to M1 in the S.

Your best bet, is probably the Honda dealership.

What?!? You used to be a big proponent of Mobil 1. What are you using in the fun car?

I used Mobil 1 in my last S and I never had any engine problems (that I know of). And I drove that car hard. My reasoning for Mobil 1 over other synthetics was that it was readily available at any autozone, walmart, and mobil gas station. If I was running low, I could just pick up a quart and go.

I used to take my car to Schaumburg Honda, and I think Schaumburg Acura once for an oil change. Brought my own oil ($20), so I just paid for labor and filter ($20 IIRC). Bit pricey for something I could do myself, but I was going 5K miles between oil changes. The manual, IIRC, recommends 7K.

I use M1 in the 'vette. (It comes from the factory that way, and it's reccomened by the manuel.)

However, there has been some very weak, ancedotal "evidence" of M1 causing premature failure of the Timing chain tentioner in the S2000. Since mine failed, I stopped using M1 and went back to dyno oil (Castrol GTX.)

Stop by my house with your oil and filter and I can help you do it for a double cheeseburger? I have drive up ramps that can accomodate for lowered cars, and a nice heated garage.

Mobile 1 is 26 bucks for a 5 qt jug at Walmart.

10w30 is the dealer recommendation on weight.
The oil change intervals should be for "severe conditions" for us Chicagoans.

I have been a fan of M1 but walmart was out of it and I needed to change my oil before I went to store my car so I ended up using Castrol Syntech. The M1 looks like water compared to any other 10w30 I've ever used. Castrol seemed thicker and my engine seemed quieter.... psychological??? who knows.

I do my oil changes (and my significant other's) myself. The only alternative I would consider is a trustworthy dealer or mechanic. I've had some bad experiences with quick lube places.

I am always interested in what other oil and filters others are using. Here's what I'm currently using in each of our vehicles:

Honda S2000 - Castrol GTX 10w30 and OEM Honda Oil Filter (interval = whenever my maintenance minder says to do it ~ 5000 - 7000 miles)
Audi A4 3.0 - Mobil 1 0w30 and OEM Mann Filter (interval = 10,000 miles).
g/f's Acura Legend - Valvoline Semisyn High Mileage 5w30 and Wix filter (interval = 6000 miles).
g/f's Ford Escort - Castrol GTX 5w30 and Fram Filter (interval = 3000 miles).

Love Mobil 1 in my Audi, hate Mobil 1 in my S (I didn't think my S sounded right with Mobil 1). And if you think Mobil 1 10w30 is like water you should see the 0w30 that goes in my A4! I don't know why the A4 seems to run best on Mobil 1 and my S seems to run like crap (I had to rechange the oil after just two weeks on Mobil 1 -- talk about wasting money). Nothing wrong with a little trial and error I suppose, a lot of this anecdotal stuff is very subjective anyway.

Thanks for the advice everyone, and Almostlude, I may have to take you up on that offer, plus I really want to see your s2k, it looks sick! (plus you have a MULDER's mod on your headlights right? mmmm I want to do that so bad)

Wow i really should read my manual, lol for some reason I thought it was every 3000 miles, makes sense since my check engine light didn't come on for an oil change yet hahaha! Well good to know! I guess I'll wait a little bit before I do an oil change tho, seeing as I am only at 3.3k

I run 0w30. No compelling reason not to -- it gets ****ing cold here, and the 0-weight helps a lot with cold starts and cold lubrication.

10 weight does not pump well when it gets very cold.

5w30 is fine too.
