Thoughts for IMPROVING the community
It was brought up a while ago (last year I want to say) about a super-meet like the S2K homecoming in California. This was entertained for a brief moment before it kinda fizzled out and died. If we could get enough interest here, and also in a few of the surrounding communities, I think we could actually pull it off.
It would have to be a collaborative effort, and be a multi-day venture. Like WTD.

I can't remember, but I want to say there was a second similar thread and someone (I want to say Patinum) suggested we try to get something like this done at the Honda Factory close to here....

I'm glad to see this thread is finally starting to present ideas to improve the community! I agree with Patinum, I don't it's as bad as some members of the community make it out to be and clearly, last night's city meet was evidence of that.
Everyone has a different agenda, but I personally agree with Ckit and I would rather attend an event with a purpose. I had a lot of fun at the Chicago Indoor Racing meet we had last summer, and I learned a lot at the tech day we had two weeks ago. Patinum posted a ton of other great ideas, many of which I would partake in and even though most of those events occur on weekends, I can plan my schedule accordingly to participate in events that are of particular interest to me. Don't get me wrong, meeting up for a burger/beer and cruise is great and I'm down for that as well, but I already have a busy life outside of s2ki (as I’m sure many of you do as well), and I prefer to do that sporadically.
Dlq04 – The guideline you presented was designed for attracting new members, but it doesn’t focus much on increasing participation among existing members. Still, there are good ideas in it (some silly), and I took a few that I think are applicable to our meets. From the several meets I've attended, I think most of these we already do, some we don’t, and some we could probably do more of.
8. Offer to have members pick up guests and drive them to the next meeting.
12. Have fun meetings! Keep business to a minimum or skip over it sometimes.
13. Send out an advance press release when a meeting is coming up.
14. Hand out club business cards listing meeting date, time, location and phone.
15. The membership secretary should follow up on new-member leads.
24. Have a formal new-member induction ceremony. It makes them feel more important and it may also impress guests who are thinking of joining the club.
39. Your meeting place should be convenient, accessible and user friendly.

Whether or not he wants to be or not, he's already filled that role in my book, albeit, without the title & drama.
to Pat.

I believe Sam made the comment before that you don't need the title to organize events and do the things that a CO does... I think the things that Pat has done definitely are great for the community...
In a nutshell, basically I'm saying that I'd rather not turn into a CO nomination thread quite yet... His endorsements are welcomed and will never be discouraged, but I'll let his actions speak for themselves..... for now

For living as close to Chicago as I do, I really do need to make more trips out there. Come to think of it, both of my little sisters are there this weekend..

and um... Angela, I was there for a UMW meet a few years ago... where were you

Thanks guys. I'm really here for the community so I don't mind organizing events without a title. I actually really like that this is a forum where anyone can start a meet, and I think that's almost more important than having a good appointed/elected CO.

Yes. I'm a little biased as I'm on the BOD for that region but I think
it will be ideal. It is centrally located so our friends from Indy and Michigan
will have a shorter drive and the group is still relatively relaxed. We also
tend to have up to 8 runs. Plus, we can loose some money at the casino
after the autocross event.
Having said that ... I'm open for a different location as well if need be.
I know this would require a new thread eventually to further discuss this.
However, we would need to discuss this soon as the autocross season is upon us.
BTW ... I'm also on board for Pat to be the new CO.
