Thoughts for IMPROVING the community
So last night's meet had a great turnout and was a lot of fun (at least for me). I don't think things are as bad as it might seem. I mean, if a completely new umw member came and saw this thread, they'd think all has gone to hell. Not saying things are perfect - I mean, there were a lot of cool new people that showed up last night, but I remember seeing a lot of cool new people last year who I never saw again.
Anyway, got to thinking about meet ideas. I think at least some of this will speak to what Ckit is talking about. Also, some of them Mountain Man mentioned in his post.
S2000 Autocross day
S2000 Track day
Galena Cruise
Kettle Morraine Cruise (and photo's @ Holy Hill)
Kettle Morraine Cruise up (or down) to Road America for an Event
Starved Rock Cruise
Indoor Karting
Outdoor Karting
24 Hours of LeMons (spectate or start a team). There are 2 events at Gingerman and 1 at Autobahn this year
Spectate various other pro-racing (ALMS, Indy Car, World Challenge, Spec Miata - these can be found at Road America, Autobahn, Mid-Ohio, Chicagoland Speedway)
Poker run - Chicago and Milwaukee guys start in their own city and we meet halfway
Wisconsin Rustic Roads tour
Michigan Dunes
Indiana Dunes
Dent Day
Detailing Day
Photoshoot Day
Mid-Season Tech Day
End of Season Winter Prep
Simple mod day (do 5 or more simple mods in 1 day like top down while driving mod, auxilary outlet mod, hardwire radar detector, etc.)
Dyno Day
Red Bull Air Race (In Windsor Canada, ie Detroit this year)
Red Bull Flugtag (they used to come to Chicago, in Minneapolis this year) Could spectate or start a team
Milwaukee Brewery Tour
Chicago Brewery Tour
Michigan (?) Brewery Tour (or wine tour)
What I just realized about the events I just listed - almost all of them are weekends only. I know between racing and awesome Chicago festival stuff, my summer weekends are almost packed. So I think the problem isn't meet ideas, it's coming up with an idea that can be accomplished on a weeknight. Obviously people have lives outside S2ki and want to spend their weekends a certain way. So what can we do to make weekday meets more appealing?
Oh, and if anyone know's how to turn a cruise into a charity event, I think that would be a great for the community.

It should be easy to translate this idea into a parking lot S2000/car show if anyone had the interest.

Not everyone does track events though and for those who dont . We (I) could set up some of those events on a weekend. I never seen such great combination of 5+ year members with new members. I was describing some of the above mentioned meet and there going nuts over them..
I say ^%$^%$^% whatever happen in the past with these meets and lets try them again with this new bunch. From what i remember most of those meets were flawless..
Keep the fire going with meets

It might make sense to have a master list like this so people could post what they're interested in. Then the actual scheduling could revolve around the people who expressed interest in attending (obviously it would be open to everyone).
I'm entered into ChumpCar (a crap can event like Lemons) and if the car holds through the early summer, we're planning on hitting Autobahn.
If you guys start a Lemons team, I'm in (already have the fire gear). Or you're welcome to spectate our team. We're already fundraising for the event with people pledging money for each lap we complete.
Other ideas for fundraising include asking a shop to donate dyno pulls or partly subsidize lift time... the money raised by the members paying for the event goes to charity of your choice.
