Default Update on why my S died on the freeway

I had posted this in the weekend autocross thread, because I was on my way down there when it happened. I managed to get just south of the loop when my revs dropped to basically nothing as I limped across all lanes of traffic to come to rest precariously at the end of the merge lane of whichever on-ramp that was.

IDOT truck towed me to the investigation site near Polk (managing to put a little dent at the bottom of the front bumper in the process... ) and then a while later the AAA flatbed arrived to tow me to the dealer (Muller).

At the time of dropoff they didn't have a clue what had happened, though the service advisor noted something appearing to be wrong with the key-immobilizer link. However, he called back later Saturday to say that wasn't the cause, but they wouldn't be able to have a tech really look at the car until Tuesday morning.

So I just spoke to the service advisor, who said there was loose ground to the ECU, which they fixed and the engine is running fine now. They're going to go over some other stuff, but basically everything seems fine. Very good news, as the red oil light came on at the time of "failure" on the freeway...

Is this just one of those fluke things that could happen at any time?

i rarely see loose grounds. it's usually a bad ground due to corrosin or a wire rubbed through.
but good news for you none the less.
