Default 17" wheel questions

I know this is a very subjective question, but ... what is the "perfect" 17" wheel set-up. Meaning, what is the ideal off-sets and widths for a 17" wheel application. This would be for the street, not track. I did try to search, but came up with not much.

Thanks for the help,
- J

Perfect is conditioned by the amount of $$$ you're willing to spend and what you want to do with the setup.

For the street w/ off the shelf rims, this is my idea of close to perfect:

17x8 w/ 215s fronts 50+
17x9 w/ 255 rears 62+

keeps with the stock stagger ratio, decent selection of tires to choose from (i recommend S-03s), and anything wider in the rear is overkill for an N/A setup.

Rims that have ~specs above:
Volk CE/LE28Ns
Mugen MF-10s
The new Shuk whatever wheels on tirerack
Work Emotions (width is a bit narrower)
Work S-2Rs (hard to get)

Not sure what you're asking, but I'm going to assume here.

If you go custom (Fikse, Kinesis, HRE), you could get wider widths and increase the offset to ensure no rubbage, lowered or at stock height.

But based on some of my s2ki.com readings, I'd stay away from going any wider than 9" if you're on N/A power, stock diff. You'll just end up spending more money on tires, but hell, you can do whatever you want to do. For example, you could go as far as 10" wide with 73+ offsets in the rear. It's been done in 18s. I've never seen 17s going that wide on the S2000.

You're probably out $4-5K for the above setup w/ rubber.

I don't want to go any wider then 8's & 9's, I guess I was just wondering if the offsets offered by say Mugen is the best offset for a 17" wheel, or ideally would it be best to have a slightly different offset w/ 8's & 9's. For example, would a +63 or +61 be better than a +62.

it's kinda like jeans man. measurements differ between makes.

so a 62+ mugen and 63+ BBS might well be one in the same. it's not an exact science, but more of an approximate.

don't go overboard with 1mm this way and that way. just know that mugen mf-10s fit. good wheel, just that they come in bronze and it'll look nasty on a silver car.

i'd personally get LE28Ns for sebring.

much luck,

WRS2K - Thanks ... I'm thinking of going with these:

http://www.kodiakracingwheels.com/
maybe the FX ?

and I will most likely have to provide them with offsets ...

Thanks again for all the help.
