On 265/35/17 when the speedometer reads 60 mph, actual speed is 58.7 mph (2.2% difference).

If you have an AP2:
On 265/40/17 when the speedometer reads 60 mph, actual speed is 61.5 mph (2.5% difference).
On 265/35/17 when the speedometer reads 60 mph, actual speed is 59.0 mph (1.7% difference).

If you have a 2008 CR:
On 265/40/17 when the speedometer reads 60 mph, actual speed is 60.8 mph (1.3% difference).
On 265/35/17 when the speedometer reads 60 mph, actual speed is 58.3 mph (2.8% difference).

Keep in mind that a 265 will be 5mm closer to the fender's lip compared to a 255.
So let's say you've rolled your fenders and can perfectly clear a 255/40/17 on a 17x9+45... putting on a 265 would bring the tire a fifth of an inch closer to the fender which depending on the tolerances of your fender roll may be something you need to keep in mind. It'd be like having a 255 on a 17x9+40 or close to the more popular +38.
And if you're running 245's then a 265 would be 10mm (almost half an inch) closer to the fender lip.

Food for thought.
So in that case I will be able to fit a 265/40 on a 17x9+45 in the rear on a stock suspension setup without rubbing, correct me if i am wrong but 20mm difference doesn't seem to be very much.

Think 265/35 would be better considering im on stock suspension? I want to do this without having to do a fender roll.

You should be running 35 series, not 40 with 18's. That would help quite a bit.

All kinds of fail in this thread. The latest being a 265/35/17. As I’m sure by now, anyone that’s been looking for one after referenced in this thread, wont find it, because no one makes a tire in those dimensions.

1. Went in to Discount Tire today to switch out winter rims/tires for summer, and they told me I had to replace my rears (Michelin A/S Pilot Sport tires) that I had planned to put 25k miles on the rears.
2. I knew the middle of the tires were down to the wear bars, but there was decent tread on the edges, so I was going to put 30# psi instead of 32# in the tires and hope to get 2k more wear out of them, and told the tire guy that, and he said ok, and left.
3. Another guy told me he used the same tire on his cars and loved them, and he could get me a good deal on another set of Michelins. I told him that I had only got about 20-21k miles out of them and was very disappointed that I didn't get the 25k out of them, so I wouldn't buy them again. I told them the original Bridgestone OEM tire that was on there when I bought the car (with 8745 miles on it) lasted till 17k miles, and they weren't even an A/S.
4. Maybe this lets you know I don't drive as mamby-pamby as I try to let on, but I maintain that I do, 95% of the time, ha!
5. I also told him I go to Tire Rack and get my quotes, and have Disc. Tire come close to matching it, like the time I had the Michelins lined up at Sams Club, and they beat their price. Plus, Sams wouldn't put anything but the 215/245 on, and I wanted the 225/255 combination, although, Disc. Tire didn't have the 255 at the time. I told him I wasn't prepared with my tire list to deal with it today, so he went back to his counter; this means I got rid of 2 guys already, ha!
6. The second guy got online to Tire Rack, got the price for the Continental DWS tires, including the 255 rear size that I wanted, and gave me a price that I thought, I would just do it now instead of getting another 2k out of the other tire.
7. I ended up paying $168 instead of Tire Rack's rate of $148 per tire, but when you count the ancillary costs of shipping and mounting, etc, plus I get the rims/tires changed out twice per year for free there at D.T. if I buy the tires there (worth alot of money over the years to me), I feel like a got a fair deal.
8. Not as good as the last time, they gave me the better warranty in a 2 for 1 deal that they probably won't do again since they know me so well now and know I want to deal with them regardless of a few bucks difference.
9. The tires were $40 each less expensive than the Michelins, which was wonderful.
10. I wouldn't have bought on the spot, but researched to make sure, but I just got through researching for my son-in-law's Infinity GS 37 Sport Convertible 6 speed, and for my son, who recently bought the Continental tires at D.T. for his Scion tc. I got the little bit bigger tire for his car as well. My son-in-law got his from Tire Rack, and saved money by getting the Ecsta Kuhmo ????? tire, which was rated in the top 3 choices if I remember correctly for that car for what he wanted.
11. So, when the guy said he was recommending the Continental DWS, I told him that was the exact tire that I had in mind.
12. Another guy (a third one I had talked to earlier when I mentioned checking the car in that I'd be buying tires in the summer), was recommending a Yokohama WK 580, which I guess was a relatively new tire out to compete with the Michelins??? I looked and didn't see them on Tire Rack, but Discount Tire had them in different sizes.
13. The tire guy looked it up and said I could get up to a 265/40 on the rear, but I wasn't willing to pay that much more for the extra little bit of width and height.
14. The 255 only cost about $6 more per tire than the 245 (when I bought the 225 instead of the 215 for the fronts 2 years ago it was only $5 more per tire.
15. I thought about getting the 255/45 for the back, but they were nearly $40 more per tire than the 255/40, so, I let that experiment go by the wayside.
16. I didn't mind he concept of getting a taller tire, but paying too much for it doesn't work for me, plus if I was wanting a hair more zip on the lower end, I'd just stick with the stock sizes instead of getting a little bigger to begin with. I liked the way the 225 filled up the front wheelwell a little better, even though it might be my imagination, so I will look to the 255 doing the same for the rear wheelwell.
17. I am curious as to whether there is another stranger person out there that has put on the 255/45, or even a 245/45 on the rears. When I mentioned this in a tire thread awhile back, I was ripped a new one, so I imagine noone is going to admit it, ha!
18. You must remember I use the car to go back and forth to work mostly: 1/2 expressway and 1/2 other for less than 20 minutes one-way. Don't do much ripping around corners, just Vtec in a straight line in 1st and 2nd, 3rd rarely. I have a boring life. Would love to get to a track one day and really have fun legally going over 100 mph, not that I do it illegally (once when I first had it when nothing was around).
19. So, I'm sitting here waiting for a call form D.T. that the tires have been picked up from the warehouse, and let's, "Get 'r done!"
