Default Chrome Wheels Help.

Hey guys and gals, I have a set of chrome TSW's that I would like to paint. I'm being told that 220 grade will be fine to sand the chrome down enough to paint over so that the new paint will stick. Is this right? Are there any other possibilities that I could try? I'd like to keep this low budget which is why I'm going at it myself, any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.
