Well, I think I can answer this, since it's my car.... 
It's basically my alarm made by Alpine. It has a dual sector motion detector for inside the car. When set right, if someone stands right next to my car for 5 seconds or more, the alarm will chirp. If someone puts their hand inside the cockpit area, the alarm will sound immediately. This is still not a perfect system, there are many surrounding variables for this to work all the time (atmosphere, lighting, radio waves, etc).
What I really wanted my alarm for is the display. Since our cars didn't have a visible clock all the time, I thought this was perfect. It's a display that shows and controls many functionality of the alarm and sensors tripped.
