Default Grip vs Unsprung Weight

Which would be more advantageous on an AP1, with its more oversteer prone suspension, for overall handling and precision feel.

Adding a little extra grip by running 225 fronts and 255 rears.. or running 215 fronts and 245 rears with 0.5" smaller wheel widths and saving 4-5 lbs per corner .

Which will feel more nimble, turn-in better, improve aceleration feel, improve cornering speed and just generally feel better overall?

I've got 18s 225 and 255. RE01Rs and the oversteer is more pronounced since the new wheels and tires. I've just bought Pss9 CO and a Swift front Sway bar to aid in planting the rear. Should be nice and sticky sweet after the install.

My opinion is when you alter the cars suspension, tires and etc. You better be ready to pony up extra dough for the necessary upgrades that bring the car back to a more behaved ride. When all is said and done you should have better grip and correct and safe handling. This includes altering the alignment too.

If you're not willing to go the distance you need to make smaller alterations. Get 17" wheels with only slightly larger tires. This will give you a little better grip and not much change in the steering and etc.

I know there are others on this site that have more technical experiences....hope they chime in.

I have 225/255 18s with Star Specs and lowered on Megan Track spec coils. I notice no oversteer; its very neutral. I think when you lower it, you'll notice a difference, the front sway will sweeten the deal. I heard the 215/255 combo makes for evening out the oversteer...

Increasing the stagger dials out the oversteer, but it also increases understeer. I'd try non staggered, with a larger front sway bar.

You are talking about many different variables. Tire weight, tire compound, wheel weight, suspension mods, how much power you have, driving style, camber settings, to mention a few. Any change in these different things is going to make you car drive different. Hopefully better if done right.

I dont drive as aggressive as some, and good tires are more important to me than light weight wheels. I am running a 215 255 stagger with UK camber specs. I love it. I am also lowered and have a x-brace up front.

Well what Im asking is in my case what is going to feel better, improve handling and not change the feel of the car too much -

Getting 17x7 fronts and 17x8 rears with 215 and 245s.. saving some weight on each corner.

Or going 17x7.5 and 17x8.5 with 225 and 255 and.. gaining a few lbs on each corner but adding a little more grip.

Or maybe trying the 215 front and 255 rear combo.

I just dont want gain any sluggish feeling or plow through corners more with the heavier but wider wheels. Tires will be Star Specs.

IMO the weight is not a concern. Get the 225 & 255. If you plan to do no other upgrades (suspension, alignment...etc) then go 215 & 255
